Microsoft’s Drone Flight Simulator

Yesterday Peter Suciu published an article in ECT News regarding Microsoft’s announcement that it would be providing a high-fidelity open source drone flight simulator that would permit drone developers to test and evaluate their navigation software prior to field testing. Braasch was interviewed for this article and noted that Microsoft’s tool will help the community but may need to be augmented to address non-vision-based sensors. Read the full article here.

Michael Braasch is the Thomas Professor of Electrical Engineering at Ohio University (OU), a Principal Investigator with the Avionics Engineering Center (also at OU) and is the co-founder of GPSoft LLC (a software company specializing in navigation-related toolboxes for MATLAB). He has been conducting aircraft navigation research for 30 years and is an internationally recognized expert in GPS and inertial navigation.
