Civil Drone Use in Colorado

From surveying crops to monitoring mine headwalls, Colorado has a great interest in the use of drones for civilian missions. However, as detailed in today’s Denver Post article by Laura Keeney, the lack of much-needed government regulations is getting in the way. Keeney interviewed Braasch regarding Amazon’s proposed drone airspace zones and the threat posed by hobbyists flying drones near airports.

Michael Braasch is the Thomas Professor of Electrical Engineering at Ohio University (OU), a Principal Investigator with the Avionics Engineering Center (also at OU) and is the co-founder of GPSoft LLC (a software company specializing in navigation-related toolboxes for MATLAB). He has been conducting aircraft navigation research for 30 years and is an internationally recognized expert in GPS and inertial navigation.
